The Adventurous Psion is now available on DriveThru RPG!

The Adventurous Psion presents the superior option for playing a Psion Player Character in your 5th Edition-compatible Tabletop Roleplaying game

The Adventurous Psion is now published by Midnight Moth Publications, and available for purchase on DriveThru RPG. I began work on it on as I was traveling on May 27th, within the scope of the Gemini New Moon, and finished up design, illustrations, and layout, and submitted The Adventurous Psion to DriveThru RPG on the late night / early morning of the Sagittarius Full Moon of June 11th / 12th.

Prior to this, I had conceived of presenting my take on the iconic psionic Player Character class, but had creatively stalled out in my attempts at working it up. For some reason, as I was engaged with making my way to Flagstaff, Arizona for the first time (and contending with the frankly awful reality of American air travel), I was inspired to make another go of it.

Strangely, I discovered that Wizards of the Coast, who publish Dungeons & Dragons, released an Unearthed Arcana on May 27th, featuring a playtest version of the Psion. I felt momentarily discouraged, but, feeling the odd and truly psychic nature of the coincidence of my decision to design my Psion the very day they released their playtest Psion, I resolved to go ahead and complete my version of the preeminent psionic controller Player Character class.

To be honest, I did look at their version, but find their playtest design of the class to be too crunchy and complicated for my taste, and really not at all like my version of the class. I intend to write up a design comparison in a follow-up to this post, so keep your eyes open and on this space in the blog-o-sphere, and your brains peeled for it when I do.

NB: If any TTRPG reviewers are interested in receiving a complimentary review copy of my Psion, please contact me here.

Om Shanti. đź––

Venus in Aries

Today, as Venus returned to Aries (my natal placement), I submitted THE ADVENTUROUS VAMPIRE, my first digital publication for Midnight Moth Publications to DriveThruRPG. I now am waiting on file and content approval from the Publisher Relations Representative, a process that will take between 1 and 7 business days.

I feel great and look forward to getting it out to the public.

60th Solar Return

PUNKIN PIE!

Today is my birthday, my solar return, and I am 60 years old. It is also my Chinese lunar return – 12 cycles of 5 elements from Wood Serpent to Wood Serpent.

Today is cold (but warmer than yesterday), windy, partly sunny, and generally overcast. Today I was awakened with love, gentle warmth, kind words, and gifts given by the cherished one who knows how to give to me. Today I am loved and I can feel it.

We ate the pumpkin pie we baked last night this morning with our hot coffee. After which we traveled to Bones, where I received a haircut from a dragon named Mike, while Tim the Enchanter wielded arcane fire as Monty Python and the Holy Grail played in the background.

Now: writing and reflection. Later: divination and delectation.

The Hanged Man in Retrograde Mercury

I am waiting on the Dungeons & Dragons 2024/2025 rules update to be released by Wizards of the Coast into Creative Commons, so that I am able to legally publish my 3rd party creations for 5th edition D&D. WOTC announced they would release the material in “early 2025”, “weeks after” the release of the updated MONSTER MANUAL, which came out in mid-February, following the 2024 releases of the updated PLAYER’S HANDBOOK and the updated DUNGEON MASTER’S GUIDE. To date, there has been no release of the 2024/2025 rules update into Creative Commons, and, as of this writing, no indication as to when specifically the material will be available there. It could happen tomorrow, or in a month, or in two months, or ..?

Consequently, the previously announced publication date of March 30th, 2025 for THE ADVENTUROUS VAMPIRE is no longer viable and its release is now TBD.

My response to the delay is to use the time by creating more: the more material of my own I have at the ready, the more I can publish when the updated material is made available in Creative Commons.

Thus:

• I am at work on the art and editing for THE ADVENTUROUS FOOL.

• I have updated the text and am working on the art for the GREENLING Species.

• I am at work on developing THE ADVENTUROUS RUDESBY, which includes an update to 5th edition of a class I developed (but never released) during the controversial and turbulent days of 4th edition D&D, originally called the Vulgarian.

Sun Conjunct Pluto in Aquarius

The Sun moved into the sign of Aquarius on Sunday, January 19th, 2025, and made its conjunction with Pluto in that sign for the first time in over two hundred years. The Sun is the seat of ego and will. Pluto takes its name from the Roman version of the Greek god Hades, ruler of the underworld, ruler of the depths of the Earth, wherein rich minerals and precious metals lay nestled with the cozy dead. Aquarius is a Winter sign, a sign of the human collective, and ruled by Saturn, god of Time: slow and steady, cold and dark, the OG goth, persistent and focused.

My Sun is conjunct Venus and Mercury in the sign of Aries. Aries is ruled by Mars, god of War, of heat, of energy and forward motion. Aries is a creature of Spring, of brilliant beginnings, and gets something of a bad rep for leaving others to finish what they start. It is a matter of pride for me to do things with love and to complete them with energy and alacrity.

This past Sunday brought heavy snow, which started around 1pm Eastern, as predicted, and continued into the wee hours of Monday. Approximately 24 hours after the snowfall’s advent, under a clear blue sky, I shoveled our roughly 80 foot driveway and cleared off the two cars parked at its summit. This took about three hours to complete to my satisfaction. My experience of this activity featured a distinct compression of this time, feeling as though only an hour or so had elapsed. I had allied myself with Time and put my Aries energy to the task at hand.

I was welcomed afterward with a lovingly prepared and delightfully delicious late lunch / early dinner of baked salmon, kale in tamari, and roasted potatoes in feta. After eating in sunset light, I recorded and submitted a self-tape for a feature film with the invaluable assistance of my partner in love and life (director, cinematographer, confidant), and sat down to play a role-playing game with friends online until about 10pm. Then we lay us down to cozy sleep.

That was Monday for me, writ in little. Other things happened Monday as well, whilst I cleared a pathway uphill through the snow. Important things. The wonderful and versatile artist Jules Feiffer passed away at the age of 95. The recently deceased David Lynch’s 79th birthday was Monday, and his family enjoined his admirers (of which I am one) to meditate for 10 minutes in remembrance of him and his life’s work. I did this as I shoveled.

The second inauguration of Lord Dimwad, this country’s first openly fascist leader, also occurred on Monday. He, surrounded by boot-licking toadies of the oligarch class. He, echoing Yeats, “with a gaze blank and pitiless as the sun”, issued executive orders pardoning his insurrectionist thugs and their incarcerated leadership. He, asserting aggression and appetite. He, bloated, agéd, and evil. As with all of us, Time will take him. Spring will soon return. Soon, but not before innocents too numerous to fathom are buried underneath the fell and freezing winter of his discontent.

Steady, persistent focus is required when shoveling uphill through the snow. So, too, when digging out from underneath its fall. Spring will soon return. This is Time’s promise.

Searching for Chiaroscuro.
